Research and Passion

My life at Eazytiger (http://www.eazytiger.net/) is currently taken up in interview after interview as we recruit for a new Account Manager (either online PR, Traditional PR, or New Media experienced), a creative designer (new media / web), and a web developer (PHP, MySQL, Javascript).

What strikes me meeting 4 or 5 people each day that would like to work for us is the astonishing lack of knowledge that many of the candidates have. Not about their role, but about the company they are pitching to work for. In the old days it used to be quite hard work doing interview preparation, but now the internet gives us it on a plate, some people seem to be getting even lazier!

Oh, and one tip if you are attending an interview at Eazytiger - a grey suit and tie are really not the things to wear. An outstanding knowledge of internet marketing, a passion for your role and self improvement would be much more welcome!

Gary.

The Wacky World Of LCFC

As a lifelong fan of Leicester City - not an armchair one either - I've been a season ticket holder for 15 years and went to every home and away game for nearly five years without missing one in the late 90s... I am simply dismayed today!

You would think that the foxes would be the talk of the news and that we'd have enough media attention having a player die twice in our half time changing room away at Fo^&st on Tuesday.

But no. Just to really turn up the media attention and give the Leicester Mercury something to fill it's summer news void - we sack our manager. Not because he's done anythign wrong - but because the chairman has decided he made a mistake in taking him on in the first place - he's too strong. A manager that's too strong - now there's a new one!!!

Anyway, it's happened, and I want to record to the world that my prediction for the new manager is ........

Stuart Pearce.

You heard it here first.

In a tribute to Martin Alan (who i rated) .....

The usual over reaction ...

Just a quick note about the news story today about the banning of Facebook and other social networking sites by certain larger companies.

About two years ago stood in front of a group of local business people that I network with (http://www.the-regency-group.co.uk) and informed them of the impending importance of online social networking and blogging. It was really a heads up - but I was shocked by the reaction of some individuals who seemed to think that this was the end of the world. They didn't see the point and one particularly vociferous individual thought that it was a big rip off, suspicious of commercial exploitation, as well as saying that it was a pointless waste of her time - it turned out that as a travel agent she spent most of her day on sites like http://www.tripadvisor.com/ - strange how people can be so vocal about their dissaproval voiced loudly and aggressively in front of twenty people - but when i talked to her afterwards and asked if she used trip advisor she admitted to using it 60% of her working day and that she was sorry (in a quiet tone to just me!) .... We'll park the PR repercussions and the lesson for positive PR here as we really only advise on online PR!!!

Anyway .... this was going to be short, so I'll get to the point.... Most people in that room reacted in the same way that they did when I was selling website design in 1999 - It doesn't affect me - I don't need it - It's going to be a fad that i can ignore..... It was obvious then that Facebook and Myspace will be part of our lives and will have commercial impact, and now the big companies are starting to react in the same way that they did with web browsing back then..... They over react and ban it.

And in a year or so - they will wake up to it's potential and start thinking about how they can benefit by their employees using social networking environments, until then the narrow mindedness will percolate through commerce, make the news, become insanely politically correct, and then the pragmatists will win out and people will realise that Facebook is just like a cigarrette break -if an employee is going to take liberties they will take them.....

If your company culture encourages innovation and excites staff to want to work, and your managers support and encourage positive attitudes towards working for the good of the company and your colleagues, then facebook will be something that you may dip in and out of during the day - but like a quick fag or a wander to the shops will be a break between some hard work. That's our attitude towards social networking sites at http://www.eazytiger.net/

Rant over.
